Heading out for some cold-weather camping over the holiday season? If you’re a first-time RVer and setting out on your first excursions in your new or used RV, take a look at our packing recommendations below. The more practice you get road tripping in your RV, the more your packing list will become second nature, but if you’re new to RVing, grab our RV packing tips for cold weather camping below.
Layers Upon Layers
You will stay warmer with multiple layers! Pack and dress with the following:
- Thermal underwear or fleece lined leggings
- LOTS of extra socks
- Fleece jacket
- Wind/water-resistant jacket
Don’t forget hats and gloves, too – and at least 2 pairs of weather resistant shoes or boots. Base layers that are waffle knit or made of merino wool are extra warm and wick away moisture.
Extra Fuel
Take extra propane with you if you can. Stoves or appliances that require fuel to heat often take longer and use more fuel in cold weather. You don’t want to find yourself running low on cooking fuel!
Stay Warm
In addition to layers and fuel, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of extra bedding and blankets. It’s perfect for chilly nights, but also a good idea to have on hand in the event of an emergency.
Emergency Kit
Roadside emergencies can happen to anyone, and cold weather can make the circumstances more unpleasant. Staying prepared will provide you with peace of mind! An emergency kit can keep you prepared for any unexpected challenges. Your kit should include:
- Tool kit specific to your RV (contact our RV parts and service department!)
- Hand warmers
- Power bank to charge devices
- First aid kit
