One of the best ways to save money while traveling is to do so in a new or used RV because you’ll never have to worry about inflation causing price gouging on your lodging options or availability. Another way to save money is to plan your meals carefully. Here are a few RV tips for saving money on meals while traveling!
Plan Your Meals Out – and In!
Eating out is convenient and quick, but the expense adds up quickly. Save money on meals by deciding in advance which meals you plan to eat out and which ones you plan to prepare and eat in your RV. For instance, when my family travels for a week, we typically cook and eat four dinner meals in the RV, have leftovers on two nights, and eat out one night. Of course, that’s just what works for us, and you need to find what works for you, but it’s a good place to start!
Share Ingredients & Pre-Assemble Like a Boss
Another way to save money on meals while you’re on vacation is to pick and plan recipes that share several common ingredients. Food waste is expensive, and shared ingredients between recipes can help keep you from tossing half of a tomato or onion (we’ve all done it!). Also, shared ingredients mean you’re paying less overall for each item by buying it in larger quantities (a three-pound tray of chicken breasts cost less than three individual one-pound packages).
Also, pre-assemble the meals you can and freeze them in gallon-size food storage bags. Invest in a slow cooker or Instant Pot and lock yourself in to not eating out for dinner by pulling a ready-to-heat-up meal from the freezer right after breakfast and putting it in the slow cooker.
Minimize Your Kitchen Tools
Every kitchen tool and gadget you have takes up space and weight. That weight adds up in your RV, and impacts your fuel economy. So, take only what you need: switch out a full set of skillets and saucepans for just one or two of each; pack only a few spatulas and wooden spoons, and minimize the coffee cups that you really need to take with you. Every ounce counts!
These are just 3 ways you can save money on meals while traveling in your new or used RV, and we can help you find the right RV that helps you vacation as affordably as possible. Stop in or contact us today!
